Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit an Warehouse Operations Manager to work for our client based in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. Our client has a diverse product portfolio and they import their products from the EU to their busy warehouse facility based in Gateshead. The Warehouse & Cold Store in Gateshead is the main UK distribution centre for our client’s products and from here, they supply over 400 clients across the UK. The organisation holds future growth aspirations and they are highly customer focused. The business is seeking a pro-active individual, who demonstrates clear/logical thinking, in order to take ownership of organisational structure in the business.
THE ROLE
Working as an Operations Manager within a busy Warehouse facility
Managing a team of 7 reports including an Account Manager, Drivers, Picker/Packers & Warehouse Operatives– ensuring all management tasks are delivered regarding employee job performance, development, well-being and safety
Leading the team towards the achievement of organisational aims and objectives
Embedding organisational structure in terms of time tables, working patterns, deliveries, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety practices
Managing all business-related escalations across the site
Managing efficiencies – controlling costs such as deliveries, administrative costs, general overhead, wages and overtime
Safeguarding service delivery standards are enacted and maintained
Ensuring inbound/outbound purchase orders are correct
Forming part of the Senior Management Team within the business and enacting devised strategies
Ensuring the smooth running of the warehouse such as layout, stock allocation, stock flow, inventory management, perpetual stock takes, worker ergonomics, deliveries, etc.
Always pushing for improvements and efficiencies
THE PERSON
Minimum 3 years Operations Manager experience gained within a busy Warehouse facility
Proven Warehouse background
Strong IT knowledge – computer literate Self-Starter – someone with proven business management experience at Operations level Self-motivated, confident, logical thinker, someone who is keen to build and up-skill teams
Strong operational mind set, procedures focused, with a continuous improvement philosophy
Good level of administration – able to effectively deal with 3rd party insurers, deliveries, renewals and facilities management Efficiency focused – able to manage costs
THE PACKAGE
This is a permanent role from day one. It centres on a 40-hour week. However, as the business operates 7 days a week – the successful Operations Manager will be responsible for developing a staff rota to cater for business needs. The role will therefore enable a degree of flexible working via rota management. The salary for this role is £45K with 28 days holiday (including stat). Due to the nature of the client’s business – there are strict periods that deny time off such as the 2 week lead up to Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas.
