Westray Recruitment Consultants announce partnership with New College Durham

Westray Recruitment are proud to announce a partnership with one of the regions top performing colleges, New College Durham. The first event collaboration will be held on the 11th of December 2018, at New College Durham.

New College Durham and Westray have complementary views when it comes to retaining talent in the region. The new partnership aims to promote the increasing range of local employment and career development opportunities for students, as they head into the world of work.

Westray and New College Durham will work together with their extensive business partner networks to support students in accessing work opportunities, that will meet their needs in terms of both career development and their financial goals.

Westray’s and New College Durham’s first joint event will be held at the College, based on Framwellgate Moor. With a theme of ‘meet the students’, this will focus on putting employers in direct contact with students who are seeking work placements. Placements, apprenticeships, higher education internships and T-levels will also feature very highly on the agenda.

Ashleigh Wright, Commercial Director at Westray Recruitment, commented: “As well as networking, employers at the breakfast event will have the opportunity to take a stand free of charge, where they can speak directly to the students and display their company information. This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to connect with the workforce of the future. In a Post-Brexit Britain, there is predicted to be skill shortages and lack of easily accessible talent. This partnership looks to inform and strengthen business and education links, meaning there is the potential to reduce skills shortages.”

Dawn Fairlamb, Vice Principal at New College Durham, commented: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Westray Recruitment. Ensuring our students gain work placement opportunities is a vital part of their studies. These placements mean they develop the skills they will need to succeed when they go on to enter the work place. In addition, it allows businesses to create a pool of talent for their own recruitment activities. Westray have fantastic links and relationships with local employers, which will only enhance our students’ opportunities.”

The eventual hope of this partnership is to allow individuals to leave education and enter into meaningful careers.
