The Most Desirable Job

At Westray Recruitment Consultants we cater for a wide range of engineering roles. However, one of the most sought after roles which we recruit for, undoubtedly, has to be a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician.

These Engineers are crucial to enable the wheels of industry to remain in motion. They maintain, repair and install vital workplace machinery and equipment to aid the manufacturing process.

Despite the much publicised skills shortage and the challenges we all face, Westray has managed to carve out a solid niche in the field of Engineering. It is estimated that in the UK, 1.8 million new engineers will be required by 2025 (Stem Awards 2018).

This skills shortage is also exacerbated with Brexit looming on the horizon. According to estimates, the UK currently requires an additional 20,000 extra students graduating from an engineering discipline, every year, in order to be able to meet the demand for engineering skills. These roles are currently filled by EU workers or migrants. Undoubtedly, more still needs to be done to counteract the skills shortage, and of course, apprenticeships still need to be pushed; there is no quick fix.

Despite this backdrop, through our hard work and determination, Westray’s database contains highly skilled, educated and experienced Engineers and our client portfolio boasts world renowned global employers, across a wide variety of sectors. For my sins, I have now worked for Westray for over 6 years. In recruitment, I like to joke, that in this often fickle industry, this is equivalent to 42 dog years. Poor jokes aside, the primary advantage of this to both candidates and clients is that, with continuity, my team and I have grown a strong database of skilled Engineers and Westray has gained a strong network of incredible organisations to supply these workers to.
