The good ones will listen to you, where you are, where you want to be, why that is and how you best think you can get there. They’ll offer suitable advice without condescension, ease any concerns, keep in touch but also leave you alone and will never treat you like a commodity. They’ll be transparent with their expertise, market knowledge and trust you with enough information about the opportunity to make an informed decision about your future.
The bad ones will tell you where you want to be and why, and of course, tell you that you can only get there through them. They’ll rewrite your CV, pressure you into decisions and aren’t taking no for an answer. They’ll hound you about where else you’re interviewing (they’re looking for leads!) but definitely don’t want you to do the same thing to them (it’s a one-way street), they’ll be secretive and vague and expect you to trust them entirely with your career whilst offering no real reason as to why you should.
Those are just our own stereotypical ideas of what a good or bad recruiter does or doesn’t do and with the best will in the world, we’re biased, and certainly not perfect either. We can and will improve, but only with your feedback.
We want to hear from you. What do you want from a recruiter you engage with? What don’t you want? What do you love about what we do? What do you hate? Here’s a link to a few really short questions, we really hope you can spare just a few minutes to have your say. Just click here...More blog posts
