BMW and Brexit: What does it mean for you?

Brexit is already having a profound effect on UK based businesses.

Yesterday, BMW announced that they would be closing the Mini Cooper factory for a month, the day after the Brexit deadline. They cited the reasons they had taken this decision was ‘to minimise the impact of a no-dealBrexitthat it fears would cause a shortage of parts’.

Obviously, this is a contingency plan. However, the ramifications of closing such a large factory (and halting production of an iconic British car) are bleak, to say the least.

This follows on from Jaguar Land Rover’s announcement of a three-day working week for 2000 staff until Christmas. Businesses make contingency plans all of the time, but there is definitely a distressing trend emerging.

Organisations are pre-empting uncertainty, and cutting back well before the Brexit date is worrying.

Is this an omen for things to come?
