THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group are seeking a CAD Engineer to join our client in Leeds and play a key role in supporting the wider business through the creation and development of accurate, production-ready CAD designs and technical documentation.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, CAM, CNC, estimating, quality and technical sales teams to ensure that designs are practical, commercially appropriate and can be manufactured efficiently.
This is a varied engineering role involving the creation of 2D drawings and 3D models, manufacturing drawings, assemblies, exploded views and bills of materials, as well as converting customer files into production-ready formats.
The role will also involve providing technical input into estimating and sales activities, supporting the introduction of new products and prototypes, helping to improve manufacturing processes and contributing to continuous improvement across CAD workflows and digital tools.
As a result, our client is seeking a technically minded CAD Engineer with strong attention to detail who can work effectively across departments and understand how design decisions impact manufacturing, quality, cost and delivery.
THE ROLE
Create and update accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for manufacture.
Produce manufacturing drawings, assemblies and bills of materials where required.
Convert customer-supplied CAD files into accurate, production-ready formats.
Apply appropriate tolerances, material specifications and manufacturing requirements to drawings and models.
Work closely with production, CAM and CNC teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
Support the introduction of new products, prototypes and design changes.
Provide technical input to estimating and sales, including design feasibility and manufacturing considerations.
Liaise with customers and internal teams to resolve design and manufacturing requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve designs, CAD processes and manufacturing efficiency.
Support quality, problem-solving and continuous improvement activities across the business.
THE PERSON
Previous experience in a CAD Engineer, Design Engineer or similar technical design role.
Strong experience creating accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
Confident using CAD software such as SolidWorks is preferable or equivalent considered.
Experience producing manufacturing drawings and working with customer-supplied CAD files.
Good understanding of manufacturing principles and producing practical, manufacturable designs.
Knowledge of tolerances, materials, fabrication and assembly.
Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate technical documentation.
Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with production, customers and internal departments.
Commercially aware, with an understanding of how design decisions can affect cost, quality and efficiency.
Proactive and practical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively as part of a wider team.
