NAME: Jon Morris
JOB TITLE: Regional Director – West Midlands/Shropshire
Something Interesting about me!
Before Recruitment I served as a Police Officer mainly on emergency response in some of the most dangerous areas of Birmingham. It certainly gave me a few life lessons, I still have the scars!!
Outside of work I’m a dedicated family man with young children, I get most of my enjoyment through them. I also enjoy sports; my favourite sport is football and (for my sins) I support Aston Villa.
My Guilty pleasures are 80’s movies and ready salted crisps. The most famous person I’ve chatted with is Bruce Willis, he was a true gent but shorter than I imagined!
Why Do I Like Recruitment?
This should be an easy one as I’ve been called back to the industry a couple of times over the last 18 years. I would say it’s because of its versatility.
The job itself is can be demanding, frustrating and the hours can be long, however it can also be exciting, challenging and very rewarding in many ways.
The recruitment industry is ever changing and that filters down to the day to day running of a recruitment operation - no day is ever the same.
Throughout the course of my career I’ve developed some relationships both professionally and personally that will last a lifetime, the job of a recruiter opens up all sorts of possibilities and opportunities. Through successes and some failures, I’ve learned a lot, you really do learn as you go and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why do I like working at Westray ?
Following redundancy, I found myself looking for a job for the first time in 20 years. Within the recruitment circles you can usually connect with people fairly promptly and after speaking with several companies I chose Westray.
My reason is simple, the culture of company radiates from the directors through to the consultants. It’s extremely important that I joined a company who are ambitious, honest, open, professional and realistic. From the first meeting with Ashleigh to the last meeting with Maureen my positive perception of Westray never changed and now after joining the business as Regional Director for the Midlands, I’m glad to report that my perception hasn’t changed.
Along with our Commercial Director Ashleigh and the support of the team, we're tasked with developing the Midlands Region. We hope to replicate the fantastic service that our North East branches have been delivering to clients and customers over the last 30 years.
I’m very excited about the journey ahead and glad to be part of the Westray team!
