Westray Man Raises over £3,500 for Charity

Paul Thompson, our Commercial Division Manager, recently completed a gruelling trek from Hartlepool to Blackpool in support of Hartlepool and District Hospice. Paul, along with good friends Pete Noble, Chris Ward and Peter Smith completed the 148 mile journey in just six days and raised in excess of £3,500.

On completion of his gruelling journey, Paul commented, “I’m not going to lie to you, it was really hard work. We were walking around 25 miles every day and believe me, after five days of that, you can feel it! That said, I do not regret it one bit. We’ve raised a lot of money for a superb cause and we’re all immensely proud of what we have achieved. The hospice looks after those who have been affected by life limiting illnesses and gives them and their families the support they need. They need almost £3million a year to fund their work, and government can only afford to subsidise 20% of that meaning that the remaining £2.2million has to be raised by the hospice themselves. Whilst the money we raised is a small drop in the ocean compared to what they need to survive for a year, we are delighted to help in whatever way that we can to support what they do.”

What’s next for Paul? “I’m going to sound mad here, and perhaps it’s the adrenaline from completing this walk but I’d love to do the Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon). I love setting myself goals, and this would be fantastic.”

Thanks to everyone who supported Paul and the guys on their adventure.
